Jaltarang Vidushi Shashikala Dani is a Hindustani Musician. She is presently the only female performing Hindustani exponent of a unique instrument – Jaltarang. The Jaltarang consists of a series of ceramic bowls filled with water, each tuned to a different pitch. The player produces music by striking the edges of these bowls with small sticks, creating melodious sounds with a unique tonal quality.

Shashikala Dani has played a pivotal role in reviving and popularizing this ancient instrument, which has a special place in Indian classical music but is seldom seen in contemporary performances. Her mastery over the Jaltarang showcases her deep understanding of Indian ragas and her ability to translate intricate musical patterns into this medium, known for its subtlety and charm.

In addition to her skills with the harmonium, Shashikala Dani’s performances on the Jaltarang are celebrated for their precision and the emotional resonance she brings to the instrument. She has performed at many prestigious music festivals, helping keep the art of Jal Tarang alive and appreciated in classical music circles.
